Earlier today Mastodon 4.3.0 was released and added few nice feature. Among others they added something that is called Author attribution. It adds a small tag with link to your profile when link from your site is shared.

Robb wrote about how you can add attribution to your own website.

In short:

  • Add new meta tag fediverse:creator into head of your page for example <meta name="fediverse:creator" content="@may@social.lol" />
  • Then go to your mastodon instance profile, click Edit profile then Verification
  • Scroll down to Author attribution and put there domain of your blog(s).1

You are done. Now you can try to link something from your own blog. Like I did with this post.

  1. This is a security feature that protects you if someone tries to link something in your name from a site that does not belong to you. And could potentially damage your online presence. ↩︎
